Our guest this episode is Rob Toomey, President of TypeCoach.

We hear and talk a lot about personality type and its impact on our relationships and success. But knowing our type or preferences is only one part of the equation to succeed.

I attended a presentation by our guest several years ago and was impressed with the practical application of their work using personality preferences.

From the show

I think my rough rule of thumb is if you are not spending 50% of your day doing things that our brain is naturally wired to do, it is not going to feel right and chances are you aren’t going to be that good at it either.  I think that if a lot of people took a close, hard look at their day to day activities through the lens of their personality type, they would realize that they are in that sub-50% and then t he next question is, and the hard one for a lot of people is, OK, what is a better fit and how do I get more in alignment with that?

…when we look at people who are using their natural skills effectively every day for more than 50% of their time, they are just more likely to be successful.

Personality is what comes easy and character is what takes some energy and attention to actually develop so the whole thing works together in a dynamic way.

There are certain places where you want to put your own effort into developing  in that area and there are other places where I recommend partnering for success, which is what you are describing.

It is funny we always say in our business “personality type doesn’t excuse behavior, it just explains it”.
